Jan Mařík received the Vojtěch Náprstek Medal

On 21 March 2023, Jan Mařík received the Vojtěch Náprstek Medal for Popularization of Science from the President of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Eva Zažímalová.

At the same time, it is one of the few disciplines that enter people’s lives and homes and is not always welcomed. Therefore, we have to explain to the public what the meaning of our work is,” Jan Mařík noted.

Jan Mařík has made a significant contribution to making archaeology accessible to the public – for example, he helped create augmented reality apps and co-organises the “Archaeological Summer” event. He also participated in the creation of the AMCR-PAS portal for amateur archaeologists and is working on the creation of a new monuments law.

As Jaroslav Řídký pointed out in his laudation, “Jan Mařík is able to connect not only experts and laymen, but also scientists with each other. Jan Mařík is probably the only archaeologist who knows all the groups and is able to connect them.”
