The project aims to promote internationalisation of human resources and to establish or deepen international cooperation through outgoing and incoming mobility of researchers (junior and senior). The project concept is set in the broader geographical and chronological framework of the European area and focuses on the study of archaeological and archaeobiological material in the context of historical migrations, climate change and economic strategies.

The proposed project enables the implementation of long-term residencies for employees. Through the project, the IAPP intends to address, in particular, the need to internationalise domestic scientific themes. This problem has been created by the isolation of Czech science from the Western research community as a result of a long historical development. A certain “static” nature of domestic research topics and especially the methodological and technological neglect of the humanities compared to the West has led to undesirable effects in the domestic research environment, which has become unattractive for international interaction and calls for joint international projects. Central Europe is thus only attractive to mature foreign institutions in terms of geographical aspects (e.g. local archaeological cultures and historical events), but less so in terms of collaboration with local researchers. Opening up key issues of migration and identity formation in response to economic and social events is therefore a desirable innovation.

Seven mobilities will be carried out within the project, thematically covering the Prehistoric to Medieval period, covering significant geographic links between Bohemia and surrounding regions, and above all aiming at basic interdisciplinary applications in contemporary archaeology (archaeometry, bio-archaeology, cross-cultural links). The following topics shall be addressed:

Mobility 1: Advanced study of mobility and provenance in prehistory based on isotope analyses,

Mobility 2: Germania Slavica as a research challenge in postmodern society,

Mobility 3: Tools to determine the meaning of metals in prehistoric ritual contexts,

Mobility 4: Innovations in early medieval construction as part of the process of Christianisation,

Mobility 5: Medieval material culture in the urban environment – networks, trade, living standards,

Mobility 6: The use of hard tissue microstructure analysis in bioarchaeology,

Mobility 7: Agenda-Setting of Confessional Archaeology of Late Medieval and Early Modern Bohemia; (arrival mobility).
