Department of Field Archaeology

The department focuses on conducting archaeological fieldwork in regions that have long been the target of professional interest of the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague (especially the regions of Slaný, Mělník, the eastern outskirts of Prague and others). It focuses mainly on the methodology of fieldwork, the preparatory phase of this research, including, for example, metal-detector prospecting and surface collections, and the creation of final excavation reports. The department is also able to prepare “archaeological risk-assessment studies” for developers in any territory throughout the Czech Republic.
