Science Fair 2026
We would like to invite you to the Science Fair – the largest popular science event in the Czech Republic, organized by the Academy of Sciences since 2015. The event takes place from 4 to 6 June at the PVA Expo Praha in Letňany, admission is free.
The topic of our stand is Before It Disappears Forever
One of the primary sources of knowledge about human activities in the past is archaeological field research. In the public imagination, archaeology is often associated with discovering “treasures” and the immediate evaluation of finds, including their dating and the reconstruction of past life.
In reality, however, the work of an archaeologist is far more complex. It primarily involves the systematic documentation, analysis, and interpretation of traces left behind by past generations. Today, most archaeological investigations take place at sites designated for future residential buildings, industrial complexes, utility networks, or transport infrastructure, including highways and first-class roads. Every such intervention represents a unique — and at the same time final — opportunity to look into the memory of the landscape.
Our exhibition stand will guide visitors through the entire process of rescue archaeological research: from archival preparation and planning the most suitable excavation strategy, through the actual fieldwork, to the conservation of finds, scientific analyses of samples, preparation of excavation reports, and the publication of results for both professional and general audiences.
Visitors will be able to view original artefacts, reconstruct their original appearance, date pottery, and even search for finds using a metal detector.
