Job Description: Research activities focusing on forensic archaeology and the archaeology of the 20th century
Research context:
The foreign researcher will participate in research activities of the project “The Land Gone Wild: Archaeological and Transdisciplinary Research on Resilience Strategies in the 20th Century“ funded under the Johannes Amos Comenius Programme (OP JAK, Czech Republic; Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports; co-funded by the European Union). The project is focused on researching the resilience strategies in modern Central–Eastern European society in the 20th century, primarily on the basis of material evidence and new categories of sources (modern artefacts and ecofacts, the sub-recent landscape, and material manifestations of community memory) with the aim of contributing to the strengthening of societal resilience. This objective will be pursued through excellent research and by transdisciplinary collaboration across the humanities and natural sciences, including archaeology, art history, anthropology and geophysics. The programme aims to increase the number of excellent R&D results in the Czech Republic and the development and to support the development of excellent research teams.
We are looking for a senior expert with an international profile in forensic archaeology and the archaeology of the 20th century.
The candidate is expected to apply an innovative approach to archaeology and other disciplines, to pursue a holistic and interdisciplinary concept of research on human society and its resilience.
Duration of Employment: 3 months in the first half of 2026
Starting Date: by mutual agreement
Workload: 1 FTE (Full-Time Equivalent)

- CV including a summary of work experience, publication activity, involvement in research grants and further information documenting the above-mentioned facts

Criteria – The successful candidate should:
- has worked outside the Czech Republic for at least 2 years during the last 5 years (as of the date of starting to work in the professional team of the project or the date of starting the mobility) in research on at least 0.5 FTE.
- be a senior researcher holding a full professorship (Professor) or an equivalent senior appointment.
- have a strong knowledge of Central European scholarly literature.
- be actively engaged in both the Central European and the international disciplinary community.
- have experience with research projects (an advantage).
- have excellent communication skills and be able to collaborate with multiple teams.
- demonstrate a capacity for innovative research, new methods & methodologies, and cross-disciplinary thinking.
- be able to prepare an international research project.
