Introduction

CZAD - Archaeobotanical database of the Czech Republic - is a database of archaeobotanical data obtained by the analysis of plant macro-remains from the archaeological contexts. The database is currently administrated by the Institute of Archaeology in Prague. It is based on the international ArboDatMulti version of the ArboDat database program originally developed in Archaeobotanical group of the Department of Archaeology, Landesamt für Denkmalpflege Hessen, Archäobotanik, Wiesbaden, Germany on the base of MS:Access. It is a result of a team work in which participated: Dagmar Dreslerová, Dana Křivánková, Adéla Pokorná, Petr Kočár, Věra Čulíková, Veronika Komárková, Alex Bernardová, Jitka Kosňovská, Zdeněk Vaněček, Jaromír Beneš, Zdeněk Tempír, Kristýna Kuncová, Kristýna Eliášová, Pavla Žáčková, Iva Kůrková, and Veronika Dlouhá. Inserting of the data took place since July 2009 to December 2011. Updating of the centralised database and merging new data will be performed once a year. Provision of data to CZAD will be on a voluntary basis.

These web pages provide an access to the basic data concerning individual archaeobotanical projects taking place within the Czech Republic (i.e. the author of the botanical determination, archaeological dating, type of archaeological site, number of analysed seeds/fruits, number of encountered plant taxa). To guarantee protection of the authors’ copyright, only the published data are available for searching according to individual plant taxa (family/genus/species).

The work on CZAD was made possible thanks to financial support under a research grant of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (AS CR) M300020902. This project took place on the Institute of Archaeology in Prague, v.v.i., AS CR, in cooperation with Department of Archaeology, Landesamt für Denkmalpflege Hessen, Archäobotanik, Wiesbaden, Germany and Department Archéozoologie-Archéobotanique, CNRS, Paris, France.
