Organisation of archeological monument care in the Institute of Archaeology

Position of the Institute of Archaeology of the AS CR

According to the valid version of the wording of §21, paragraph 1 of law 20/87Sb concerning the state care of historical monuments, the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Science of the Czech Repubic is an organization that is authorized to undertake archaeological research on the territory of the Czech Republic.

Territorial range of the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Prague, v.v.i.

The Institute is authorized to carry out archaeological research within the framework of scientific projects throughout the territory of the Czech Republic. The Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Science of the Czech Republic in Prague however mainly works in Bohemia. The Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Science of the Czech Republic in Brno concentrates on Moravia and Silesia.

Rescue archaeological excavations, i.e. those excavations that are carried out in the connection of building activities and stand next to the regular scientific projects of the Institute of Archaeology, are conducted by the Department for the Protection of Archaeological Monuments of the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Science of the Czech Republic. The Department covers mainly the following areas:

  • dep. Mělník
  • dep. Kutná Hora
  • from the dep. Nymburk: Libice nad Cidlinou cadastre
  • from the dep. Benešov: cadastres of Sázava, Černé Budy, Dojetřice, Čeřenice and Bělokozly, dep. Benešov
  • from the dep. Praha – east: Přezletice cadastre
  • from Prague 1 – Hradčany, mainly the Prague Castle
  • from Prague 2 – Vyšehrad
  • from Prague 6 – Střešovice, Břevnov, Dejvice
  • from Prague 7 – Holešovice
  • from Prague 8 – Ďáblice
  • from Prague 9 – Balabenka, Běchovice, Čakovice, Černý Most, Dolní Počernice, Horní Počernice, Hloubětín, Hostavice, Kbely, Klánovice,Koloděje, Kyje, Letňany, Miškovice, Satalice, Třeboradice, Újezd nad Lesy, Vinoř
  • from Prague 10 – Dubeč, Dolní Měcholupy, Horní Měcholupy, Hostivař, Kolovraty, Královice, Křeslice, Lipany, Malešice, Nedvězí, Pitkovice, Strašnice, Šterboholy, Uhříněves
