Archaeological excavations especially referring to residence in Early Medieval period have been executed in Žatec since 1992. Numerous residential sites and fortification systems have been studied in various extents. These studies in total are the proof of enormous importance of the Žatec. Some problems may be solved exclusively by means of environmental analyses. The latter are the questions dealing with the influence of a man on a landscape within the neighbourhood of densely populated agglomeration engaged in agriculture. We may observe changes of the environment; the same applies to agriculture as the basis of the economy of Early Mediaeval state. Samples of layers are being taken systematically. The goal is to receive by means of wetsieving a sufficient number of plant macroremains material. The samples for pollen analysis are being taken from the identical sources. The main goal of these activities is to reconstruct the living environment and economy of the Early Mediaeval Žatec.
