The aim of establishing a Centre for Archaeological and Palaeoenvironmental Studies (CAPES) is to create the conditions for the comprehensive use of resources obtained by archaeological field survey, and their processing to modern standards – which, due to insufficient capacity and levels of equipment is at present possible only to a very limited extent in the Czech archaeology. The CAPES will bring a new quality to data with the aid of the application of modern field, technical and natural-scientific methods, and in particular through the study of ecofacts and recovered items of organic and perishable materials. An integral component will be the routine use of radiocarbon dating. The CAPES will concentrate on the education of young scientists, and thus ensure continuity of research at a high level in selected priority areas.
