This project aims to complete a three year grant project called ‘ Settlement and development of the Holocene floodplain of the Labe river between Nymburk and Mělník ‘, which was interrupted by the applicant due to a period of maternity leave. The projectinvestigates the geomorphological dynamics and development of the River Labe floodplain during the Holocene in relation to past human settlement, taking into account anthropogenic and climatic factors. During the past 20 years many preconceptions concer ning the Holocene geomorphology / archaeology of river floodplains have been revised. The alluvium contains a diverse range of archaeological and environmental data. The formation date of the youngest terraces has been moved forward into last 10 000 years and the origin of a present day floodplain is now seen as having been a continual process beginning sometime in the early part of the present millennium.
