The aim of this project is to investigate how social life (interactions in society) looked like in the light of dress accessories finds (buckles, brooches etc.), items which are usually only archaeological evidence of fashion.

The proposed project will be carried out in two phases. First, by performing research in the archaeological archives of Prague institutions with the aim of preparing a catalogue of unpublished finds from selected urban excavations. Some selected artefacts will undergo specialized examinations (X-ray spectrometry) in order to obtain technological information.

In the second phase, materials from Prague will be analysed using theories developed in the social sciences (such as Actor-Network Theory) to gain knowledge not only about artefacts themselves, but mainly about relations in the society (production, consumption, manifesting identity, status and aspirations). To solve this issue, we will investigate archaeological, iconographical and written sources on a broad European background.

The progress of the research will be also posted on the project web site on social media: https://www.facebook.com/medievaldressaccessories/.
